A Huawei Mate 20 Porsche Design Model Is Seemingly Under Development

Huawei Mate RS Porsche Design

Since late 2016, Huawei has collaborated with German company Porsche Design on a number of Mate-branded devices including the original Mate 9 Porsche Design and this year’s Mate RS Porsche Design. Now, with the Mate 20 series unveiling just over a month away, it seems as though another collaboration may be nearing.


As revealed by tipster Roland Quandt, the new smartphone is codenamed “Everest” but is often referred to as “EVR-xxxx” by some of Huawei’s own employees. Currently, there is, unfortunately, no information relating to which features and specs the smartphone will actually offer. However, some assumptions can be made. Starting off with the internals, Huawei's Kirin 980 processor will presumably be included alongside 512GB of storage and at least 6GB of RAM. In addition to this, a triple-camera setup should be present on the rear. Unlike the regular Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro, though, the Porsche Design edition will likely opt for a vertical camera layout, as has been the case with all previous models.


Moving over to the front of the smartphone, a curved AMOLED display seems to be the most likely option alongside an in-display fingerprint scanner, much like the Mate RS Porsche Design that debuted back in February. Unlike the latter model, though, the Mate 20 offering is expected to remove the second fingerprint scanner that was included on the rear. On a separate design note, a display notch isn’t expected either. After all, Porsche Design’s Design Director, Christian Schwamkrug, previously stated that the feature interrupts the overall look of the device.


Just like the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro, Huawei’s Mate 20 Porsche Design will likely make its first official appearance on October 16 in London. And, if this year’s Mate RS Porsche Design is anything to go by, a price tag of nearly $2,000 should be expected.
